Great mount (04.10.2014)

Have to say I don't know why I waited so long to get this. Great quality, mounting holes were accurate. It keeps the sight at a low profile. Mounted this on a S&W 625-8 with a Burris Fastfire III.

Good Mount...BUT!!! (19.09.2012)

Used this mount to attach a Burris Fastfire to a Smith& Wesson Model 27 that was manufactured in 1974 (27-2)...Isn't much out there to attach a reflex sight to these pistols while keeping the sight low, so this is a good option as the Fastfire bolts directly to this mount...Installation requires removal (1 screw) of the rear pistol sight and this mount is supposed to fit in the recess in its place with the drilling and tapping of 3 new holes (6-48) using the supplied screws and mounting it onto the strap...The machined portion on the mount is several thousands wider the the recess on the pistol and did not fit...I had to mill it to the proper diameter and then it fit into the recess..After done it is a great setup but don't try to mount it unless you have a mill and means to tap straight holes to the precise depth...This may fit other guns without but neither the manufacturers website or Brownells indicates any detailed info on this...A disappointing surprise but no problem for me...However this is not a "ready to mount" system but a good one for the machinist so it got a 4 from me...

Great mount! (10.10.2016)

Installed this mount on a S&W 28-3, unlike another reviewer, the mount I received was a perfect fit in the top strap sight channel. In that this revolver is almost 35 years old - I did need to drill & tap the 3 mounting holes in the top strap, I used a medium-sized milling machine to perform that operation. The result is a nice fitting (about as low as possible to the bore), rock-solid mount. I currently have an old Optima 2000 mounted on the gun, but I just may have to spring for a brand-new STS or DeltaPoint.

As a word of caution - I would not recommend installing this mount as a DIY project on an older (not factory drilled & tapped) S&W revolver unless you have the proper equipment to do precision drilling & tapping on a revolver frame, this is not a task for a hand-held drill!

Alignment Issues (02.10.2018)

Mini STS mount WILL accept a Vortex Venom reflex sight, but it only provides 2 plastic alignment pins, which are located behind the mounting screws (which are located towards the rear of the sight). These pins fit loosely into the base of the red dot. Result is poor alignment with the mount.

You can move it left and right significantly and tighten it down. The only thing holding it in alignment is the screw tension. This is asking for trouble on a magnum revolver carried in the woods.

Will return and purchase a mount featuring an alignment pin at all 4 corners, & where the mounting screw only holds the sight down, once aligned via. the pins.

Gave it a three star because it probably works well with some other brand red dot.
