Nice multi-tool(12.11.2009)
Nice tool for the armorer or do-it-yourself guy/gal. The screwdriver body is okay, standard plastic body (cheap), but it does have a magnet in the shaft, so your bits stay in nice and tight. I wasn't able to fit all the bits into the body of the screwdriver, one bit had to remain in the shaft.
All in all, it's a great tool. Knowing what I know now, I would probably just buy the bits and use them in my own screwdriver.
Oh well, either way works!
Very disappointing "Tool Set"(28.01.2010)
I am a certified Glock armorer for a Department of Defense Law Enforcement unit. I bought this Screwdriver set as an alternative to small, hard to use tools to install after-market front sights on Glocks. It was a little pricey, but I've been using Brownell's Gunsmithing Screwdrivers exclusively for years, so I assumed it was worth it.
How wrong I was. First of all, there are five bits and one Allen wrench in this kit. Only two of the five bits have any real utility for Glock pistols (unless you're one of the very few people still running their adjustable rear sights, then the thin-bladed straight screwdriver bit could be handy.) The Allen wrench serves no purpose in mainteance of a Glock. There are two round punches, only one of which is appropriately sized for any use in maintenance of any Glock model. To top it off, it's nearly impossible to get all of the bits (because there are too many, most of which are unnecessary) into the handle of the screw driver for storage.
The worst part is the bit that is the whole reason I bought this set - the front sight screw bit. First of all, it is bored too deeply. When you put a front sight screw into it, it will "sink" into the bit's body at an angle at the first instance of attempting to put any pressure on it (e.g. when you try to start the screw). I called Brownell's tech support about this, thinking I must have gotten a bad bit, and was told that my bit was made "to spec." I was further told that, in order to use the bit to install the front sight screw, I should first "start the screw" by putting petroleum jelly on a pencil eraser, sticking the front sight screw to the eraser, and using it to get the screw initially threaded. The technician said all this as if it is standard procedure in the industry to use that method, which, I can attest, it is not. So, basically, this is a nut-driver bit with which you cannot drive the nut that needs to be installed. Great.
Fast forward about eight months to today. I have used this "tool" to uninstall about 10 sets of Glock sights, at an outside extreme (probably more like six). I attempted to use it this morning to remove a front sight screw that had been installed, IAW Glock and the manufacturer's instructions, with a small amount of Blue Loctite. I fitted the nut-driver over the end of the nut, started to turn the handle, and the bit broke! The mouth of the bit snapped off - without budging the hand-tight and Blue-loctited screw.
All in all, I couldn't be more disappointed in this set. If you're considering it, please save your money and look elsewhere.
I should've listened to the reviews(04.08.2011)
Cheap feeling, handle too tight and short to handle the contents of the kit, bits wobble and fall out too easily. Do youself a favor and listen to the reviews!
Great buy!(31.01.2012)
Im not sure what some of these other guys are working on but I have found this tool to be the Perfect Glock tool. The front sight tool works as it should with no problems and I have used it on 25-30 guns in the past 2-3 months. The take down tool works, the other punch is great for the magazines as its a bit longer than the standard punch. When your changing out base pads or springs in mags it is handy. The small screw driver is great for guns with Glock factory adjustable sights. The allen wrench and hex bit work great for aftermarket sights that require a bit to tighten them down. This tool plus my Glock sight pusher is all I ever need. I too am a Certified Glock Armorer and I love this tool!
Works for Most Glock Tasks(26.10.2017)
Agree with Chris from Iowa. Don't know what these other guys are working on.
Used the Front Sight hex tool to replace front sight w/ Tru-Glo TFX on G43. I own a Glock front sight tool which would be my first choice but this one works fine. Used MGW Glock pusher w/adapter to remove and replace rear sight w/ TFO then used small Allen bit to tighten small Allen set screw.
Small punch will work on all disassembly pins but wish they included a larger punch for the larger trigger pin.
Have used the larger punch on Glock Extended mag plates like the Pearce and Standard Glock along with a GTUL and Vise Grips to compress the magazine bodies so as not to damage the tabs. On standard and flat aftermarket Glock baseplates, I use the GTUL along with the MagClaw.
Used the small standard screwdriver bit to remove and replace the mag release spring for R&R of ambi mag release (G43). Worked well.
ALL bits will fit into handle IF you put them back in the correct order. Put the Allen wrench in first short side down, sight tool, large punch & small Allen bit (fat driver side down), small punch and screw driver bit (fat driver side up). Place cap on and jiggle (don't force) until threads engage. Tilt the driver handle and jiggle as you tighten the cap. Voila!
