Works great!!(13.05.2011)
I purchased this item along with the white Lacquer Stik and found them to work excellent for highlighting firearm stampings and engravings.A little prep work is required to use them. First remove hardened portion of the stik and rub away over the lettering.Second step is to use a cloth or Q-Tip moistened with mineral oil to remove the excess then let the lacquer air dry (I did mine 24 hrs). That's it!! You're done!! Excellent product for highlighting the "FIRE" stamp in red on your AR!
Perfect(27.08.2011)
I purchased this lacquer stick to color the "fire" selector on my AR-15. No, it wasn't necessary to do so but I have always liked color coded safeties for peace of mind. This has been at least 6 months since the original application and there has been no fading or peeling or anything else. It looks as if I had applied it yesterday. I can't recommend this enough over going through the trouble of actually painting the weapon.
Method I Used For Results (assuming all safety checks have been done and weapon is unloaded):
1) Cleaned area on receiver with rubbing alcohol or other similar product to remove any grease.
2) Wait until completely dry and fumes are gone (I waited 30 minutes just in case.)
3) Using a blow dryer heat up the receiver or area of the weapon you intend to fill in the lettering.
4) Hold lacquer stick under blow dryer for 3-8 seconds to heat up.
5) Rub lacquer stick across area to fill in lettering.
6) Use shop towels (the blue paper towels) with a little oil or cleaner on it to wipe of the excess. Continue wiping around the area, the excess will come off, be patient.
7) Wait for it to dry (30 minutes - 1hr to be safe)
Good product(31.05.2012)
Great porduct for a good price. doesn't wipe off when the oil hit it and stays looking good
Easy to use(27.11.2012)
These lacquer sticks are pretty easy to use. I heat the lacquer stick with a heat gun as well as the work area. I then rub the stick on the item I'm working on. Once enough has built up on the surface, I continue to heat the area with the heat gun so that it liquifies and fills the recessed areas of the item. Once sufficiently coated, I allow the item to cool down. I then use a cleaning patch with some mineral spirits to wipe the area. The goal is to wipe off the high areas and leave the lacquer in the recessed areas. This works quite well. The only issue is solvents and cleaners will easily damage these paint filling.
Works for me.(25.02.2014)
I used this on the "fire" position of my AR lower. It came out looking really nice and wasn't particularly troublesome. I cut off the very end to expose the soft inside of the stik and set to work. I applied it cold. It went on very easily, although it did take some persistence to get it into all the nooks and crannies. Once it was in place I set about wiping away the excess. It didn't seem very happy to be evicted from its new home, and it left some ghosting around the engraving I had filled. I tried several products along with some vigorous scrubbing to remove the ghosting: alcohol, nail polish remover, and Simple Green. The ghosting thinned a little, but was still very noticeable. Running out of options, I saw a bottle of Froglube, the liquid variety and said to myself "couldn't hurt". It took the ghosting right out, but left the fill in place. It's only just been applied so I can't speak to its durability.
