Brownells AR-15/M16 Barrels, made for Brownells by Satern Barrels, feature 5R button rifling and are machined from 416R gun barrel steel for a superior shooting barrel. These 5.56x45mm barrels feature a Black Nitride finish, for superior lubricity and corrosion resistance. Barrels have a 1-7 twist, for excellent performance with heavier bullets, especially those 62gr or heavier. Available in 10.5”, 14.5” and 16" lengths. Gas systems vary by barrel length and preference. 16” barrels are available with either a carbine or mid-length gas system. 14.5” barrel replicates the issue M4 profile, while 16” barrels can be had in lightweight or medium contours. Muzzle is threaded for ½-28 and the gas shoulder accepts .750 gas blocks. Opposite side of gas port features dimples, so that gas block set screws are secured in place, preventing movement.

I bought this for a lightweight build for my daughter. When I got it put together it seemed to be a great handling little carbine. The barrel appeared to be of high quality, too, and I expected it to be a great shooter. Things began to fall apart at the range, though. First I noticed that it didn't want to group very well, and this at only 25 yards. Then, when I was trying a few shots something went very wrong and sparks flew everywhere when I fired. Looking it over everything seemed normal until I noticed that the front end of the comp was destroyed! A bullet had key-holed while exiting the barrel! Tracking the cause down I finally settled on the barrel crown. Rather, the lack of a crown! A sharp edge was tearing the bullet jacket as it exited the muzzle. This is an unsafe condition which should not have gotten by final inspection. When cleaning and checking the barrel later I also noticed a very rough area in the bore which appeared to be across from the gas port. In short, there was very poor quality control on this particular barrel. The saving grace is that I know Brownells will make it right! Great people with (usually) great products!

I purchased this for my Dream Build (Also first build hahaha) and well...

This Barrel is AMAZING at it's price Point...

It has 5R rifling!!! >:)

Lined up, & FIT how a Barrel Should!

Costs FAR Less than any other comparable Barrel... YES SIR!

However...

This barrel only has ONE Pre-drilled Set Screw dimple... I am extremely disappointed in this.

As i was going for the Strongest possible Set Screw only mount, I ordered the Midwest Industries Lo-Pro Gas block, (100-002-854WB) Because it had 3 Set Screws!! While it DOES line up well with the dimple, it is JUST SLIGHTLY to far forward to buttress against the Shelf stop for the gas Block... And it still needs 2 More dimples to be "Murphies-Law-Proof".

I would have Thought Brownells could have anticipated their customers desire for UTTER Rigidity, Maybe they will read this, & have the Machine shop do as such???

I cannot fault the Rifling, it is Perfect, and 5R... >:)

I MUCH prefer the Nitride finish over Phosphate/Hard Chrome!!

And it is MUCH less than anything EVEN REMOTELY Comperable!

Perfect Tolerences/ Tight fit where it Needed to be.

I see no reason to buy a different Barrel...

Great shooting and light! (12.05.2015)

I built a AR with the goal of the "lightest and longest".

I chose this barrel and its worked wonderfully. It shoots great, cleans really easy, and is really light.

Mid Length gas was a requirement, along with nitriding, and light weight. This fit the bill perfectly.

Running a rifle length buffer, adjustable SLR gas block, nitrided bolt and gas tube, saker brake, and lightweight Ace stock and odinworks handguard, the rifle shoots flat, smooth, and true.

The only complaint, is the muzzle shoulder. I wish it was bigger. Indexing shims for my Saker brake sorta overlap and compress around the shoulder, since its not really big. It works fine for most people, and I wish I had bought a Saker flash hider instead.

Looked good visually, BUT it would not chamber a "Go" gauge. Tried with 2 LaRue Tactical, 1 BCM, 1 GI, and a Spikes. I could have finish reamed it to resolve the issue, but decided to go with a White Oak.

Wouldn't waste my time on another one and it costs twice as much to ship it back than what you get reimbursed for return shipping.

Very pleased with this barrel, and it does NOT have the %%#$@ M203 launcher cut. I would have given it 5 stars but the exterior finish is a satin finish rather than matte black. As with all nitrided barrels I have used you need to thoroughly clean the bore before use as there always seems to be some residue in them from the nitriding process,
