Good But Be Careful(07.03.2010)
The base pads are nice, no complaints. The "self tapping" screws are not! Out of 3 pads I installed 3 screws stripped. 2 were my fault because I thought they were self tapping and my Shooting Star mags were not tapped. 1 screw still stripped on a tapped mag. Be careful, the screws are too soft. I've used CMC basepads in the past and they use actual "self tapping" screws.
Great pads, lousy(27.11.2010)
I too found the included "self taping" screws completely inadequate, they are just too soft.
Save some time and frustration and buy a 4-40 tap, #43 drill and machine screws for installation. The pads themselves are well made and time will tell just how durable they are, but the price for a 6 pack of bumper pads makes this an attractive buy.
Why We Need Them(13.03.2014)
Bumper pads are frequently over-looked because they are considered bulky & unnecessary for concealed carry. Actually, they help ensure that the magazine is fully seated in a speed reload & also gives you something to grab on if the mag jams. I drop my mags during a speed reload, so having a bumper between the base & the concrete doesn't hurt either.
These appear to be exactly identical to the ones factory furnished with a Sig 1911 Ultra Compact and identical to the Chip McCormick Shooting Star pads...they are NOT. When the front third of a pad cracked and fell off I thought I might have overtorqued the screws. Replacing the pad and very carefully tightening the screws resulted in another pad fracturing and separating (overnight, not immediately). Both times the mag was loaded but not fired. Not impressed! I'm installing the remaining pad...three usable out of six (so far)...not good odds. The factory pads and McCormick's pads have not failed.
Good bang for the buck(21.08.2014)
Have used these for years. No issues with conceal carry. Have had a couple break, but they aren't made to be abused. They work for what they are. Don't go for a bargain (which these are) and then complain. Great Product!!!
Not sure why so many negative reviews?(03.11.2014)
You can read a lot of bad reviews on midway, but the guys installing them must not have finesse or are gorillas. They screw into my stainless steel stock Metalform mags perfectly. No issues. It'll come to a point where you can feel resistance and then just stop. I didn't have one snap or break on me, and I didn't over tighten them. For the money, they're good. Try them on Metalform mags maybe???
Ed Brown 1911 bumper pads(13.01.2018)
I just purchased my first pack and only installed one on a Kimber 7-round 45 magazine. Installation couldnât be easier, the screws worked just fine. The screws should be a softer metal than the magazine screw holes so you donât strip the screw holes on the magazine. Donât over tighten the screws and use the right screwdriver and you should be fine.
They donât fit this magazine perfect but thatâs because of the magazine design not the bumper pad. The pad overhangs the front of the base plate creating a lip. I compared them to other bumper pads and they are the same size.
I ordered some new magazines and plan on using these bumper pads when the magazines arrive. Brownells price was excellent and shipping was fast. I wouldnât hesitate to order more if I needed them.
